Computer Desks -

There are broadly three types of desk that can be used at home or in the office to house your computer and all the items that go with it – for example, your phone, your files, notes, etc – and these types are listed below.

Computer desks

A computer desk is a popular choice for office use as it provides additional storage and work space for everyday tasks like writing notes and using the telephone. A standard computer desk should have enough space for your entire computer system but also provides extras such as file drawers, a filing system and a medium to large work space. A desk of this type should not be ruled out for a home office, but suitability will largely depend upon your extra requirements in terms of space and storage.

Computer workstations

This is essentially a computer desk that doesn’t have other features like file drawers, a filing system or a large work space. A workstation is a good alternative to a computer desk if you have limited space, or if you feel that numerous drawers and a sizeable filing system is not necessary for your office needs.

Computer cabinets

Computer cabinets are based on the desk or workstation models, but have the additional benefit of a lockable door behind which all your equipment – including your computer – can be hidden when not in use. A cabinet is ideal for people that work from home, especially when a dedicated home office is not an option and the family room or bedroom has to double up as a study. They are also a very popular choice for families who have a communal computer, not only because the computer can be hidden from their sight, but also because it can be hidden from the eyes of potential intruders too.

If you are considering buying a computer cabinet, always ensure you have enough space for the item with its doors open as well as closed. This may sound obvious, but many people overlook this detail and finish up with a cabinet that does not fit into their space adequately, or cannot function to its full potential.
